There are several restorative procedures that can help rebuild your smile after its experienced tooth loss, but dental implants are unique in that they provide an unparalleled likeness to the look and functionality of a natural tooth. If you are interested in undergoing treatment, Dr. Kern K. Agader, in the Kapolei and Ewa Beach areas can help!

More About Dental Implants

Dental implants are synthetic structures that replace missing tooth roots. They mimic both the appearance and functionality of natural teethDental Implants through their biocompatibility, a term that means that your body won't reject the restorations once they have been implanted into your smile.

Implants are successful in their restorative mission because they are directly anchored to the jawbone. This anchorage requirement means that patients must also have the proper bone density for this procedure to succeed. However, even if this density isn't initially met, there are dental procedures that can be taken to make treatment possible.

Dental Implant Procedure at our Kapolei/Ewa Beach Office

The procedure is straightforward:

  1. The titanium post is inserted into the jaw to replace the missing tooth root. This root replacement works to both provide stability and strength, as well as prevent any weakening or shrinkage of the jawbone.
  2. Following post installation, there is a 3 to 6 months resting period for osseointegration to occur (this is the natural process of the post fusing to the rest of the jawbone).
  3. After this period, your dentist tops the post with an abutment before securing a crown on top of the entire fixture in order to finalize your brand new tooth!

Caring for Dental Implants

To take proper care of your dental implants, make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily, at least once before bed. A change in diet may also be beneficial. Remember, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables while avoiding sugary foods helps to prevent the accumulation of plaque!
