Oral Conscious Sedation

High-Fear Dental Patients No Longer Need to Be Afraid!

Dental fear is a hidden phobia—the monster in the closet that no one wants to talk about. Many people are embarrassed to admit their fears and even more afraid to confront them. Oftentimes not even loved ones are aware of their apprehension. Worse yet, these people may have never known that oral sedation dentistry was an option.

This popular and growing treatment option, particularly beneficial for anxious and fearful dental patients, has recently been featured in:

Sometimes referred to as “comfortable” or “anxiety-free” dentistry, the terms describe the feelings that most patients experience during their appointments. The use of sedative medications can help make patients more comfortable so dentists and their teams can work more effectively, accomplishing more dentistry in less time with greater quality.

So why is sedation dentistry such big news?

Nearly 30% of the population is afraid of the dentist. Additional studies have shown that up to 75% of adults in the U.S. experience some degree of dental fear. This means that millions of patients across the nation are searching for a way to have their dentistry completed without the anxiety and fear that normally accompanies a trip to the dentist.

The process for patients is simple. After a careful review of their medical history, Dr. Agader will choose the appropriate medication(s) and level of sedation to best meet the patient’s needs. Driven to their appointment by a companion, the patient will most likely take a single pill before arriving at the office on the day of their treatment. More medication may be given depending on the type of procedures being performed and the duration of the appointment. When treatment is complete and the patient is ready to go home, their companion drives them back and stays with them until they are fully recovered from the sedation medication. Due to the amnesic properties of many of the medications, patients have little-to-no memory of their time in the dental chair by the next day.

With sedation dentistry, time seems to pass very quickly, so hours will feel like minutes. Oral sedation allows your dentist to accomplish more dentistry in a single visit—reducing four or five appointments to just one or two. You’ll be amazed at how much can be accomplished in such a seemingly short period of time, while you were totally relaxed, and completely comfortable. And best of all, the very next day you will feel fantastic.

Sedation dentistry can help if you are…

  • Delaying treatment you need and want.

  • Scared, even terrified, to pick up the phone to schedule.

  • In pain, especially when you eat.

  • Someone who has trouble with gagging or getting numb.

  • Afraid of needles (oral sedation uses pills, not an IV needle).

  • Don’t do well with the sights, smells or sounds of dental treatment.

  • Looking to smile again with confidence.

  • Overwhelmed by thoughts of repeated visits to the dentist.

If you’ve delayed getting rid of oral pain or infection, now is the time to take advantage of the many benefits of sedation dentistry. Dr. Agader, a sedation-trained general dentist, can give you the care and attention you deserve—and the smile you’ve always dreamed of. He received his training from DOCS Education and is one of the only local dentists to offer this valuable and highly effective treatment.
